THE 'BLACKBURN CYCLE' or IDEAL EXPLOSION ENGINE
4 stroke mode is used for high power and accelleration.
A simple switch activates the fuel injector for valve 2 in stroke 5, above.
After stroke 8 the cycle restarts with stroke 1.
The cylinder then contains an ideal explosive charge of 1:14 fuel / air with no exhaust gas.
Exhaust gas has been burnt once, it will not burn again, but will absorb heat and energy if present in the cylinder.
The Blackburn Cycle also raises the effective compression, cools the charge at the start of the compression, gives a higher combustion temperature, allows more complete combustion, lowers pumping losses and other smaller advantages compared with the usual 4 stroke engines.
